Bring the needle up at A, move up 3 canvas threads and over to the right 2 canvas threads, bring the needle down at B. Bring the needle up at C, move up 1 canvas thread and over to the left 1 canvas thread, bring the needle down at D. This completes the first Fishbone Stitch. Now, continue on to Diagram 2...

Fishbone Stitch (Diagram 2):
Beginning where we left off at D, bring the needle up at E, move up 3 canvas threads and over to the right 2 canvas threads, bring the needle down at C. Bring the needle up at F, move up 1 canvas thread and over to the left 1 canvas thread, bring the needle down at G. Bring the needle up at H, move up 3 canvas threads and over to the right 2 canvas threads, bring the needle down at F. Bring the needle up at I, move up 1 canvas thread and over to the left 1 canvas thread, bring the needle down at J. Bring the needle up at K, move up 3 canvas threads and over to the right 2 canvas threads, bring the needle down at I. Bring the needle up at L, move up 1 canvas thread and over to the left 1 canvas thread, bring the needle down at M. This completes the first row. Now, continue on to Diagram 3...

Fishbone Stitch (Diagram 3):
For the second row, we begin at the bottom and work up the canvas. Bring the needle up at A, move down 3 canvas threads and over to the right 2 canvas threads, bring the needle down at B. Bring the needle up at C, move down 1 canvas thread and over to the left 1 canvas thread, bring the needle down at D. Bring the needle up at E, move down 3 canvas threads and over to the right 2 canvas threads, bring the needle down at C. Bring the needle up G, move down 1 canvas thread and over to the left 1 canvas thread, bring the needle down at F. Continue in this manner until the row is complete. As you can see from the diagram, the new row is worked into the previous row.
