Beginning where we left off at D, bring the needle up at E, move down and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at F. Bring the needle up at G, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at F (yes, we were just here). Bring the needle up at H, move down and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at G. Bring the needle up at E, move down and to the left over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at H. This completes the first Rice Stitch. Now, continue on to Diagram 3...

Rice Stitch (Diagram 3):
Beginning where we left off at H, start the next Rice Stitch in the row by bringing the needle up at C, move up and to the left  two canvas intersections, bring the needle down at J. Bring the needle up at I, move up and to the right two canvas intersections, bring the needle down at B Bring the needle up at K, move down and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at H. Bring the needle up at L, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at H.  Bring the needle up at M, move down and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at L. Bring the needle up at K, move down and to the left over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at M. This completes the second Rice Stitch in the row. Continue working in this manner until the end of the row. The next row will be worked in the opposite direction. All subsequent rows should be worked into the bottom of the previous row - as per Diagram 3.
