Single Knotted Stitch (Diagram 1):
Bring the needle DOWN at A, follow the red arrow to the left UNDER the canvas and bring the needle up at B. Be sure to leave a small amount of yarn loose at A, as the diagram shows. From B, move the yarn to the right OVER three canvas threads and bring the needle down at C. Move the yarn UNDER the canvas to the left and bring the needle up at D. Again, leave a small amount of yarn loose at D. At this point, you will need to cut the yarn and tie a knot using the loose ends. To create a row (or rows) of this stitch work the next stitch into the same canvas hole and continue in this manner. Each row will be formed directly below the existing row, with the loose knotted yarn covering the horizontal stitch below it.
