CHECKER STITCH
The Checker Stitch is a variation of the Scotch Stitch. Basically, this stitch consists of a series of Scotch Stitches alternating with blocks of tent stitches. This stitch creates an interesting
Checker Stitch (Diagram 1):
Bring the needle up at A, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at B. Bring the needle up at C, move up and to the right over two canvas intersections, bring the needle down at D. Bring the needle up at E, move up and to the right over three  canvas intersections, bring the needle down at F. Bring the needle up at G, move up and to the right over two canvas intersections, bring the needle down at H. Bring the needle up at I, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at J. This completes the Scotch Stitch part of the Checker Stitch. Now, continue on to Diagram 2....
Checker Stitch (Diagram 2):
This portion of the Checker Stitch consists of a block of tent stitches. In order to make this demonstration easier to follow, the scotch stitch is shown in light blue and the block of tent stitches are shown in dark blue.The tent stitches are worked in the order that they appear on the above diagram. First, work tent stitch 1.  Move to the left and work tent stitch 2. Move down and to the right and work tent stitch 3. Move down and work tent stitch 4. Move up and to the left and work tent stitch 5. Move up and to the left and work tent stitch 6. Move down and work tent stitch 7. Move down and to the right and work tent stitch 8. Move to the left and work tent stitch 9. This completes the tent stitch portion of the Checker Stitch. Now, continue on to Diagram 3...
Checker Stitch (Diagram 3):
This diagram illustrates how the Checker Stitch should appear when complete. At the end of each row, the canvas should be turned. Work each row into the preceding row.
