LONG & SHORT STITCH
The Long and Short Stitch may be worked in any direction (horizontally, vertically or

diagonally). It is most commonly used in embroidery, but will adapt to needlepoint canvas. This is an excellect stitch to use for shading areas. Basically, this stitch consists of rows of long and short stitches (hence the name) that are worked INTO the stitches of the previous rows. Three diagrams have been used to demonstrate this stitch.
