Bring the needle up at A, move up two canvas threads and over to the left one canvas thread, bring the needle down at B. No, we do not complete the cross stitch at this time. Oblong Cross Stitch With Backstitch (Diagram 1):
This stitch is worked differently than the Oblong Cross Stitch. You may choose to complete each stitch before moving on to the next one. Or, you may choose to work each row of cross stitches and add the backstitch on the return journey. In this demonstration, we will complete each stitch before moving on to the next one.
Bring the needle up at A, move up two canvas threads and over to the left one canvas thread, bring the needle down at B. Bring the needle up at C, move up two canvas threads and over to the right one canvas thread, bring the needle down at D. Bring the needle up at E, move over to the right one canvas thread, bring the needle down at F. This completes the first Oblong Cross Stitch With Backstitch.

for covering areas of canvas. The Oblong Cross Stitch is suitable for either single or double canvas. The Oblong Cross Stitch With Backstitch may be worked with two yarn colors (a second yarn color for the backstitch. One diagram has been used to demonstrate each of these stitches. Now, we start the return journey, which will complete the oblong cross stitches. Bring the needle up at K, move up two canvas threads and over the right one canvas thread, bring the needle down at H. Bring the needle up at I, move up two canvas threads and over the right one canvas thread, bring the needle down at F. Continue in this manner until you reach the end of the row.
Once you have completed the first row, work the second row in the same manner. All subsequent rows should be worked into the base of the previous row.
