Alternating Tent Stitch - Diagram 3
The Alternating Tent Stitch is another variation of the tent stitch.
This stitch is comprised of regular tent stitches with longer diagonal stitches worked in between each tent stitch row. Extra tent stitches are then added on top of the diagonal stitches (similar to trammed stitches). You may use this stitch to cover any size area. Simply extend each row by adding two extra stitches. Three diagrams have been used to demonstrate each stitch.
Alternating Tent Stitch (Diagram 1):
Bring the needle up at A, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at B. Bring the needle up at C, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at D.Bring the needle up at E, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at A.Bring the needle up at F, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at G. Bring the needle up at H, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at I. Bring the needle up at J, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at F. Bring the needle up at K, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at E. Bring the needle up at L, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at C. Bring the needle up at M, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at N. Bring the needle up at O, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at L. Bring the needle up at P, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at K. Bring the needle up at Q, move up and to the right over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at J. This completes the first portion - the basic tent stitch portion. Now, continue on to Diagram 2...
Alternating Tent Stitch (Diagram 3):
This diagram illustrates how a completed section of the alternating tent stitch should look.
Alternating Tent Stitch (Diagram 2):
Once you have completed the basic tent stitch portion of this stitch (as demonstrated in Diagram 1), it is time to add the trammed diagonal stitches that fill in the spaces between the tent stitches. In order to make this diagram easier to understand, the basic stitches that were completed in Diagram 1 are shown in dark blue. This diagram will add the stitches illustrated in light blue. Bring the needle up at R, move up and to right over two canvas intersections, bring the needle down at S. This is the first diagonal stitch - we will now work the small tent stitches OVER this stitch. Bring the needle up at C, move up and to the left over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at N. Bring the needle up at L, move up and to the left over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at M. This completes the first trammed diagonal stitch. It is important that you work the small tent stitches as each longer diagonal stitch is complete. This will prevent snagging.
Bring the needle up at T, move up and to the right over four canvas intersections, bring the needle down at U. Bring the needle up at A, move up and to the left over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at D. Bring the needle up at E, move up and to the left over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at C. Bring the needle up at K, move up and to the left over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at L. Bring the needle up at P, move up and to the left over one canvas intersection, bring the needle down at O
The next diagonal stitch (V-W) is worked in the same way as the first two, expcept for the extra tent stitches added (due to the longer length of the diagonal stitch). Now, continue on to Diagram 3...
